These safety rules are in additon to the General Range Rules found here: General Range Rules
- Safety is first and foremost, the responsibility of the members and guests using the range.
- EMERGENCY NUMBERS: 911 or RCMP (Cold Lake detachment) 780-594-3302
- Eye and Ear Protection is MANDATORY for ALL SHOOTERS and SPECTATORS.
- No person impaired by ALCOHOL OR DRUGS may handle firearms. There will be NO alcohol consumed on the range before or during any shooting event.
- The range is approved for the following:
- General:
- All targets MUST be placed within 2 meters of the base of approved backstop(s) or directly in front of approved bullet catchers/traps.
- Targets must not be placed at any other locations on the range.
- The range is NOT approved for dynamic style shooting.
- Handguns:
- All handgun calibre cartridges.
- Firing may only take place from the shooting stations and firing points that employ physical limitations to elevation, depression and traverse of the firearm.
- Shotguns:
- The range is approved for shooting directly towards the backstop (NO Trap shooting, NO Skeet Shooting and NO Sporting Clay Shooting)
- Rifles:
- The range is approved for all rifle cartridges contained in template groups ".22 long rifle, .223 Remington, 308 Winchester and .338 Lapua Magnum"
- Firing may only take place from the shooting stations and firing points that employ physical limitations to elevation, depression and traverse of the firearm.
- Firearms may only be loaded when on the firing line and ready to shoot. At all other times, they must be unloaded and stored with the action open in either the provided firearm rack or cased.
- Shoulder and Cross-Draw holsters are prohibited.
- Whenever there are two or more active shooters on the range, one must ACT as the RANGE OFFICER:
- Responsible for the overall safety of all users & spectators on the range.
- Gives range commands including “Load”, “FIRE” and “CEASE FIRE”.
- Shall visually confirm that ALL firearms are unloaded and not being handled during a “CEASE FIRE”.
- Informs shooters when they may move forward to change or place targets.
- Any person on the range may call a “CEASE FIRE” at any time and for any reason.
- The use of the Range Flags is MANDATORY.
- A RED flag indicates that the range is in use and live fire is occurring.
- A GREEN flag indicates that there are no active shooters on the range.
- Targets.
- Only paper targets or alternative targets specifically approved and installed by the Governing Board are allowed.
- Reactive targets, such as Tannerite and Firebird Targets that are designed to explode upon being shot are NOT Permitted.
